NAS Pensacola, known as the "Cradle of Naval Aviation," serves as the launching point for the flight training of every Naval Aviator, Naval Flight Officer (NFO), and Enlisted Aircrewman. NAS Pensacola's primary flying organization, Training Wing Six (TRAWING 6) includes three jointly manned (Air Force and Navy personnel) US Navy training squadrons, VT-4, VT-10, and VT-86, with the mission of training USN and other services' Naval Flight Officers and Navigators. These units fly a variety of aircraft, including the T-34C, T-2C, T-1A, and T-39. NAS Pensacola also serves as the home station and primary practice site for the Navy's Flight Demonstration Squadron, the Blue Angels.
NAS, Whiting Field is the busiest naval air station in the world, responsible for an estimated 46 percent of the Chief of Naval Air Command's total flight time and over 10 percent of Navy and Marine Corps total flight time. The station was established as a naval air auxiliary station in July 1943. Whiting Field’s mission is to train student naval aviators in the primary and intermediate phases of fixed-wing aviation and in the advanced phases of helicopter training. Whiting Field employs approximately 2,000 military and 962 civilian personnel.
NTTC Corry Station Pensacola The current mission of Corry Station is to provide technical and military training in Cryptology, Information Operations, Electronic Warfare, Instructor Training, and Information Systems to produce well-trained, motivated and disciplined personnel in support of U.S. and Allied operational forces. Today, Corry has detachments located throughout the continental United States, and graduates approximately 7,000 students annually. Its role has changed over the years, but traditional pride still dwells within NTTC Corry Station as it continues to provide the finest and best-trained personnel in the military.
The Blue Angels Among the numerous display teams around the world one is truly outstanding: the Flight Demonstration Team of the US NAVY, the BLUE ANGELS. Founded in 1946, the BLUES definitely belong to the world’s most famous and attractive aerobatic teams. The BLUE´S make full use of the raw power of their Boeing F/A-18A Hornet – accordingly, their displays are always spectacular. The Blue Angels performs at approximately 70 air shows at 40 locations throughout the United States and abroad. The mission of the Blue Angels is to enhance the Navy recruiting effort as they seek to attract talented and qualified youths to join them in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
National Naval Air Museum and Imax Theater One of the largest and most beautiful air and space museums in the world - over 130 restored aircraft representing Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Aviation. These historic and one-of-a-kind aircraft are displayed both inside the Museum's 291,000 square feet of exhibit space, and outside on the Museum's 37 acre grounds. The Museum also tells the human side of Naval Aviation and features memorabilia from each era of flight including personal mementos from historic battles, flight logs, vintage equipment and flight clothing. The IMAX theater is almost 7 stories tall with a 6 channel, 15,000-watt sound system. Experience a take-off in an F-18 fighter jet.
